What usually goes wrong with an air conditioner in Victoria.
- Blowing warm air: most often low refrigerant from a slow leak, a failed capacitor on the outdoor unit, or a frozen evaporator coil from poor airflow. A dirty filter causes more of these calls than people expect.
- Will not turn on: a tripped breaker, a failed contactor or capacitor, or a thermostat that has lost its settings. The capacitor is the single most common part we replace in the Victoria heat waves.
- Short-cycling: the unit starts and stops every few minutes. Oversized equipment, a refrigerant problem or a control fault. Left alone it shortens the life of the compressor.
- Water where it should not be: a blocked condensate drain or a cracked pan. Quick to fix, expensive to ignore once drywall is involved.
- Ice on the lines or coil: airflow or refrigerant. Turn the system off, let it thaw, and call before the fan motor is damaged.
- Grinding, buzzing or rattling: fan motor bearings, loose mounts, or an electrical fault at the outdoor unit. Buzzing is the one not to ignore.
